I'm looking to set-up a 2ft tank but I'm not sure what sort of quantity and breed of fish I should have for a well balanced community tank. Does anyone have similar? If so can you share with me what you have?

Check the measurements in the calculator at the top of the page. The general rule is 1" of fish per gallon.

Roughly 20 Gallons. So 20 fish approx?

If the fish youre getting are all 1" long then yes.

Most generic common tropical fish are 1.75-2.75" long, and theres many that get well near 2ft (probably longer in some cases but i dont personally know of any, but im new so...)

what fish will you be getting?

I mean neon tetras are a nice beginner fish, and theyre a good 1.5" in average cases, so you could have 15 ish of them at most.

Youre probably looking at 10 fish, considering a lot are 2" ish.

slight Overstocking of fish isnt terribly important with certain species that are slow moving and care little for space and spend most of there time hiding in cave structures or under bogwood plant areas, but with shoaling fish they need loads of room, they like to swim around with plenty of room, and if you have 2 different types of fish and have little room or are overstocked then theyl get a bit stressed possibly, again, depends on the actual fish.

goto ur local fish store (lfs) and see what attracts u, dont buy but write them down. Its easier to give ideas once we have an idea what you want. General rule is 1inch of fish per 1 gallon but with anything over 3 inches it kind of changes if u ask me. Id say go and find some fish u like, check them out, etc.. and then ask us again. We on here want u to choose what fish u want, not what ones we told u 2.

congrats on the tank..
