Morning everyone. Thursday was a sad day I lost both of my Bristlenosed plecs within 12 hours of each other. I checked water stats all normal, water temp is stable they had both been eating and swimming about as usual and then out of the blue they went to fishy heaven. I checked them as I took them out of the tank, no unusual markings, no sign of whitespot, growths or injury. All the other fish seemed fine all feeding no sign of illness until this morning. My blue neon Gourami has what looks like a growth close to his tail fin. Could this have something to do with the plecs? What should I do now to help the Gourami, he's swimming about ok although the growth seems to be restricting movement a little on the top part of his tail fin. Would appreciate some help everythings been going great in my tank for months and then all of a sudden it seems to be all going wrong. Thanks for reading my post. Becky :-(

How long has the tank been up and running for? Also is it still the reckord96?

I took a quick glace through old posts...looks like you've had a couple of disease outbreaks? And I couldn't tell if any of the fish had to go through fish-in cycling?

If they had to go through both cycling and a disease in the tank, it's not that unbelievable that they could have simply died due to a shortened lifespan.

As for the gourami though, sadly I'm no disease expert. But they are well known for being sensitive fish with poor immune systems.

Hi thanks for your reply. It is still the rekord 96. I've had the tank since may 2008 and did a fishless cycle so the tank was populated in june 2008. I did have a problem with a bristlenose dying back in april last year but she was was fairly new to the tank its all been fine and dandy since then until thursday. 1 of the bn's was one of the origanal BN's that I bought once the tank had been up and running for about 4 months. The smaller BN was bought at the same time as the one a lost in april.

Can you describe the growth on the fin in more detail please.
Does it resemble a cauliflower.
Does it look smooth.
Does it look hard of soft filled with fluid.
What colour is the growth.
Any redness to the growth.

it's yellowish in colour but red around the base. It's not smooth, i would say hard, it doesn't look to be filled with fluid. possibly califlowerish but he keeps swimming off when i'm trying to get a good look. It has come on very quickly tho i don't recall seeing it when i feed them last night. hope this helps, sorry if a little vague?

Can you load a pic up of the fish.

Yellowish cauliflower growths can be lmythocystits
But with the red around the base it could be bacterial.

I think I would issolate and try a bacterial med.
