I scrapped the community tank idea and am going back to more aggressive fishes for the 37 after my heater breakage incident annihilating the 37's stock.
Right now all I've got is the female convict and a bunch of tiger barbs (which will increase in number after another batch gets out of quarantine) And I was wondering if I would be able to add another 5-6 inch cichlid species to this tank.
The footprint is unfortunately a mere 30 inches by 12 inches, but it's got a good 2 feet of height on it.
Being particular here, I was thinking of getting a firemouth of equal size to the convict. I don't want to get a male convict, because I don't really wanna have the big responsibility of rehoming a bunch of little baby monsters.
I'm also a bit of a soft heart towards fish fry that I watched grow, even if it's just a little bit, so I would feel awful if I used them as big-fish treats or simply flushed them. I also don't want them to go on murderous rampage and kill my barbs while they breed. That would be bad.
In the past I had issues in my larger tank with my firemouth and convict, but the firemouth was twice the size, so he kinda had an edge in pushing her around.
The tank is far from bare boned, got quite a bit of tall plastic plants and a medium sized cave and large and medium drift wood ornament.
Back on topic, regardless. Would a firemouth and convict fare together in this tank? If so, is there anything else I could throw in there to minimize aggression as much as possible? Thanks much.
