1st Shrimp Arrived Today

I want shrimp but is it just me or are they hard to see in the tank? Whenever i see them in the shop they are very difficult to spot :(

Are they kept with other fish in the shop? or little cover?

if they're kept with fish they can sometimes feel threatened, and the more cover you have, the safer they feel so they're out more lol... :good:

sounds sweet Minx, but are you sure teeny weeny shrimp are a good enough excuse for a new tank :hey: --<thinking>--- yeah you`re right it is!! if thats all it takes, why didnt i think of it earlier

i hope they dont get eaten, i think they look lovely, tho i wouldnt have any cos they have creepy legs

shelagh xxxx

ps, sorry its taken me 20mins to type 4 lines, the fone wont stop and i have a million other things im trying to do too :S (( school hols are over and realised im 36 not 37- how good does it get :hey: ))

Any hint of another tank is always a good excuse, although at present they seem fine the fish arent bothering them now - so will wait and see how if goes.

Oh your school hols are over - lucky you, got another two long weeks to go here :(

Wooo hoooo a year younger (and the same as me) its time to celebrate :-
Aint it funny how you forget how old you are the older you get

Totally gutted.

Awoke this morning to only 3 (that I can see) shrimp left - all amano.

Found 4 in the filter, dead on the sponge - can only think they were sucked up because they couldnt climb in there, the rest are either hiding or been eaten!

They were all happily running around the tank last night when I went to bed - the fish werent taking any notice of them and if any did get near these little critters could run like hell so I cant see how they got eaten.

RIP little shrimp :-(

they are fab at hiding though. i have some that i dont see for months on end, then pop! i see one running across the sand!

I have had 3 x amano shrimp in my community tank along with 2 x German blue rams with no problems - although they are fully grown. I think that would be your best bet dont buy the small ones!

My shrimp are not shy at all and wander around all over the place all day with no problems! they also cottoned onto the fact that when im there food is probably on its way and come dashing up to the front! they are really cute!

Found 2 more survivors :)

They were in one of my small tanks Gilli - not with the cichlids, maybe just in hiding, shall try to tempt the rest out with something scrummy:D

Its early days - it will take them a while to settle in - I think we all forget how traumatic their little lives must be being caught and transported from dealers to shops to owners with different water stats and environments! Im sure in a few days they will be zooming all over the place! :good:
