So this is my first attempt at keeping shrimp, they have arrived this morning, 10 teeny cherry and 5 Amano - they are in the 10g with guppies/cories and snails. Tiny but fast little things - the guppies have had a chase but cant catch them and they have found shelter in plants so far - I assume they wont get eaten by the fish already in there? If so, guess whos off to get another tank  Oh the trauma that would cause :D

So aside from the left overs (which frankly isnt much as the cories get most of it) what do you feed them, algae wafers? veggies? what else?

the cherry shrimp will probably get eaten, amano should be fine though.

hikari crab cuisine ,pellets etc

mine get:
cucumber
banana
bloodworms
daphnia
flake
algae wafers
bottom feeding pellets
hikari crab food
and then a crushed up mix of carrots, peas, sea weed, algae, spinach, shrimp meat, crab meat...

I spoil my shrimp.

I wouldnt think adult cherries would get eaten... deffo not.

but babies would, but if you have los of plants then a few always survive. :good:

why would the cherrys get eaten?

what shrimp should i have with these fish:
2 german blue ram
2 gold ram
rummy nose tetras
guppies
angelfish (maybe)
tiger barbs (maybe)

I dont have the (maybe) ones yet but im thinking about getting them
i dont want this tank overstocked so i probably will get one or the other

No shrimps with the rams - if they do survive they will live in hiding permanently - rams like to eat shrimps. One of the reaons I have never put any in my larger tanks - but figured should be ok with the gups/cories.

my shrimp ran for cover into the filter and thats where they've lived since day 1!! i have to be careful when cleaning it though as they hide in the sponges.

if i pull them out and put them back in the main bit, within minutes they're back in the filter so i leave them there now!

I'd say leave the barbs and the angelfish out, and you could get amanos, bamboo shrimp, giant african filter shrimp.... :good:

ohhhh, new tank time? :P :P

Will a small 30L be ok for now? Till they grow up a bit? Maybe even have babies of their own? :D

30litre is ideal for a shrim only tank and they will happily breed away in there provide some plants fro them and expecially java moss :good:

I want shrimp but is it just me or are they hard to see in the tank? Whenever i see them in the shop they are very difficult to spot :(

You notice it doesnt take much to make me happy :)

Well I can see mine Rab (boo hiss change your sig :() although in a large tank I can imagine they would be hard to spot, but they stand out lovely on my purple sand/plants  Go purple IMO.
