17 Litre Tank

would a 17 Litre tank be ok as a hospital tank / new fish monitoring tank?

bought one on ebay for 15 quid including filter light and heater, but now not sure it would be big enough
Do you think it would be ok for say 1 fish at a time for hospital or for new fish before going in the main tank?


It was advertised as an aqua one, but now found it its a fish are fun aqua box... so the advert didnt do me any favours!

What fish do you have? lol it wouldn't be ok for a footlong goldfish, but I suppose guppies, platies etc, also depends how long your going to leave them in there

i currently have platy, neon tetra, molly, cory, pengin tetra, BN plec...

I need a new platy and maybe a cory so was thinking of putting in this new 17l for a few days to make sure he;s ok before going in my main tank. had issues with new fish last few times i have introduced them

I could always use for just plants otherwise i gues... or just sell on.. only paid 15 quid or an expensive cat water bowl!

Hi there,

I've got white cloud mountain minnows and a pitbull plec in there with no issues, I did get rid of the overpowerful internal filter for a HOB Eheim though (actually it now has 2 for added flow) ;P.

So hould be fine short term for larger fish.

thanks a lot nurglespuss!! Do you have the same 17 litre, how many white cloads do you have in it?
this is what i got with it
1 x Fluval 17 Heater that works fine and keeps temp around 28 - 30.
1 x Aqua 50 Filter and water nozzle ( in good working order )
1 x Aqua one Thermometer work fine.
black and white gravel and a green plastic tree
1 x Aqua one LED light

I have a neon with possibly some mouth growth so he was going to be my 1st in there with some meds.

Yep exactly the same model, its nice little nano!

I have 5 white clouds, 1 pitbull plec, 1 apple snail, ramshorns and tadpole snails.

Its got sand base, and is kept temporate (using fluval edge heater and external hydor thermostat), 2 eheim liberty filters.

I had to replace the light unit as the wiring 'melted' in it, so keep an eye on that. You can mount an arcadia arcpod on it if it goes wrong (though you may not need light unless you have plants - mine splanted with Elodea crispa, java moss, chistmas moss and java fern).

Once I get a larger tank, I'm probably going to keep the 17L for a dwarf puffer.

yeah the advert said the light unit was replaced with an aqua one led one as the old one "broke"... haha suspect it had the same fate as yours!
sorry to sound stupid but i keep hearing the term nano... but whats it mean??

had my lido 120 for a year now and im still learning!

Yeah you will be fine, nano is just small tanks

That's the equivalent of a 5 US gallon tank and there are quite a few different fish that can live nicely in there. My first thoughts are that, if it could be covered, it would make a good home for a male betta or a couple of African Dwarf (not Clawed) Frogs.

I've got one of my betta boys in his own 5 US gallon It's a great little tank.

used to have a male blue beta loved him, but sadly he died earlier this year... not sure i want another, he was lovely but dont know if i could stand losing another!

Or of course, for character, you could go for a dwarf puffer....

now i like that idea not sure where i can put the tank yet, so may just do a plant tank as it may end up out in the extension.
