Hey,

Well as per title really. Im 16 and Live in Kent, Uk. IVe always had fish but a couple of months back i got attarcted into the world of fish for real after my 20 gallon fishtank exploded in my room ... over everything i own. New carpet was needed, computers ruined, Tv ruined, but i got over that :)

Since then ive been really into my fish and ive been lurking all over the internet on the forums. At the moment ive got 4 Goldfish and 3 African Dwarf frogs in my room. Im going to collect my new 20 gallon tommorow morning so ive very excited as the fish have been in a 15 liter for a couple of months and since i rescued one from my garden (bird pond attack) Hes a good 3-4 Inches long!. I'l just do a one day cycle on it and then put them in :). At the moment the plans are to use the current tank to house Betta. It'l be my first venture into the world of tropical fish, although my parents know alot about them as my nan was a breeder back in the 70's and had some truely amazing tanks, Marine to. Once i get a job i'd like to get myself a Marine tank too, But first i think i'l get some Neons around June to see how that go's :).

So as it is at the mo im not looking at getting tropical's for a while but i just want to learn really :).
Thanks!,
Craig

i would say that a 20g tank is barely large enough for one goldfish, they can grow to 6"+, nevermind 4 with frogs too.....

ok before the freaking out starts remember it says he's a newb.

Ok firt of all welcome to the TFF community. :good:

like they said the goldfishes won't fit in that tank, i know it sounds retarded but it is true.

as for the compatability temp wise im not sure. basicly what you are going to have to do is return the frogs (im sorry :() because they probably wont survive a cycle. as for the goldfish, you can keep them in while it cycles, very high risk and poor living for the fish for a while, but eventually youre going to have to re home them to :(.

Nice welcome to the world of fish right? >.<

if i was you i would go read like every article on cycling there is on this website. i did a fish in cycle with my tank and i regret it now. anyway, there are a LOT of beautiful fish that can go in a 20gallon but goldfish just don't im sorry.

anyway welcome to the website and if people start yelling at you don't take it hard, it would seem sometimes the people here lke fish more than people

thanks guys. Perhaps i worded it wrong. The frogs have a 20G of there own and have done since i got them several years ago, there fine :). We collected the fish tank this morning and they seem to be settling in ok. I know that 20G is small for a single goldfish, but they were in a very small 15 liter and as soon as i signed up to "kokos goldfish forum" a couple of week ago and realised my tank was too small i upgraded as soon as i could, As this 20 was the best i could find with the little money my family has at the moment

your tank wont cycle in one day.

I know that ... Just the extra space in the tank is far more benificial than the bateria in it. There other tank was not even 1/3 of the length of this one, and i'd rather get them out of that tiny tank and risk it with 8/10 new water anyway. I used the 15 liters from the old tank so there is some bateria left.

ok before the freaking out starts remember it says he's a newb.

Welcome to the forum FishMadCraig.
You are absolutely correct that a 20 gallon will always be better for the goldfish than a 15 litre tank. It will require that you do lots of water changes but they won't be as big or as often as they would be on the smaller tank. It also gives you a bit of breathing room to find the fish a suitable home, either in your own home or in a pond.

Hiya mate. Thanks :) Yeah thats true! Im wondering wether or not to plant it. I'd like to try it and ive got some money left so it might be an idea. If not and they die i'l buy some of those fake ferns from my lfs, not the plastic ones though as ive heard they can hurt the fish?

Most plants will have a hard time surviving in a goldfish tank. Goldfish are vegetarian to a large degree and love their fresh greens.
