16 to buy fish alone

I've also known guy who would buy bettas specifically to watch them fight to the death. I agree that the law is to try to keep people from treating fish inhumainly... Unfortunately, they don't realize that education is key for good fish keeping. I know many 12 year olds who I think would make great owners, simply because alot of 12 yr olds care so much for animals. A 16 yr old, on the other hand, is more likely to be too busy for the fish, or loose interest in them.
Yep in the 80's my dad used to work in a fish store and there would be tons of people that would come to the store, buy a bunch of bettas, and every weekend have a betta match to see whos betta would kill the other first.

What dumb*sses

Lol, the mid 80's, that explains a lot right there.

Anyways, tone of the reasons there are age limits for purchasing animals is because, as everyone has been saying, many kids just don't have the proper information to take good care of the animal.

The other reaosn is that companys are afraid of parents becoming angry that the child has brought home an unnaproved animal. Lawsuits sometimes ensue.

I think it should be illegal to insult and belittle children...
It already is in the UK.
Any form of abuse towards children including emotional and verbal abuse is against the law under:
  • The Childrens' Act 1989
  • The Human Right Act 1998
  • The Crime & Discorder Act 1998
Just thought I'd mention it...

However, it's a proven and well documented fact that in most children under 16 the area of the brain that provides empathy (awareness of others' feelings) and a sense of consequence is under developed. Which is why children sometimes do dangerous or cruel things without seeming to recognise that it's wrong.

And THAT is why under 16s should not be allowed to buy fish unattended.

quite honestly it's quite fun refusing to sell fish to those snotty litle nosed kids, even more fun when they kick up a fuss and your still right :p

although some of kids that we know the parents well and know the kids well will get served.

AT Petco you have to be 18...

Im 17, but people say i look older so i can still get what i need most of the time.
