That's right. The cories don't need algae waffers. They DO need some other kind of sinking food such as catfish pellets and will also eat any bits of flake that sink to the bottom.

As for lighting, a little lighting in the tank is better than nothing - both for the plants and for viewing purposes. It's deffinately not going to be too bright or over-powering. The light has to go through the water and actualy looks a pleasant white shade. Go take a look in the pics section and you'll likely see what i mean. It's not overpowering at all. You should get aquarium lighting - your LFS should sell them. You could use pretty much any lighting tube but it does need to be made for aquariums for safety reasons and you're likely to need more than one if you want to fully light a tank that big.

most of my fish food i feed them are both a tropical fish flake and this all kind tropcal fish pellet that sinks and a little floats the pellet is made by the fish shop i buy from and can be uses for both adult and fry fish they get plants and a bit of fresh lettus to pick at ....the lighting for the tank is just indoor lighting dont they need some thing better??.................oh anuther funny i have seen is when changing the water the gouramis colour go realy bright are they doing this from stress or the water temp?....oh hehehe and miss dib dabs angelicus sounds cool

The lighting for the tank is supposed to be special aquarium light tubes that go in the hood - that IS better. I don't see what you're talking about with the 'indoor lighting'.

They get bright because they like the improved water quality. I suggest you do more frequent water changes if they only color up when you do them as it may mean your water is not that great at other times. make sure your nitrAtes are always below 20ppm.
