Do you guys think I have room to add 4 silver dollars?
Current stock in this 6 foot tank
1 oscar
1 jack dempsey
1 featherfin catfish
1 firemouth
For filtration I have 2 sea Chem tidal 110s 1 penguin 350b

Think 4 silver dollars would be okay?

What are the tank dimensions (length x width x height)?

What is the GH (general hardness), KH (carbonate hardness) and pH of your water supply?
This information can usually be obtained from your water supply company's website or by telephoning them. If they can't help you, take a glass full of tap water to the local pet shop and get them to test it for you. Write the results down (in numbers) when they do the tests. And ask them what the results are in (eg: ppm, dGH, or something else).

How big is the Oscar and Jack Dempsey?

Both are still small fish ph is 7.8 dkh is between 8 and 9 oscar is about 6 inches jack is only 3 not growingn to fast haha

You could probably add silver dollars now but when the Jack Dempsey and Oscar are full grown, there won't be space for the silver dollars or anything else :)

Okay well I don't think I will then. I just didn't know if adding anything else would be an option even when full grown! Thanks

Unfortunately the Jack Depmsey and Oscar both grow to about a foot long and are both territorial predators. They might even fight when they mature. If that happens you will have to separate them. Because of this, you will be limited to what can go in the tank. Most Jack Dempsey cichlids end up alone or in a breeding pair with nothing else in the tank.

I would definitley not say most Jack's are overhyped on their aggression so are oscars these 2 seriously don't care about one another at all. And I honestly doubt this jd will get a foot long. The biggest I've seen is 10.5 inches I have had mine for 6 months now and he's went from 2 inches to 3.2 it's awful. I also do a ton of water changes 2 30 to 40 percent changes a week plus he gets fed 3 times a day...

My experience would say they are not super aggressive but very impulsive in predatory behaviour, growing from small to large together I would guess that they will be fine , and I think if your going to add your silver dollars do it now while they are still small , I had a 7inch Oscar who ate 4 4inch silver dollars no sweat

I just didn't know if the silver dollars would add to much bioload long term I don't plan on upgrading their tank is all.

I wouldn’t say so , in my opinion for the size of your tank your lightly stocked , I think the silver dollars would be a good addition to be honest

Also if the jd and Oscar so become aggressive towards each other the silver dollars would help spread aggression

Thats good to consider definitley! My jd is currently going into qt to he has some odd head shaking and trying to go on a hunger strike so he's getting treated I'm not adding anything until he is 100 percent healthy anyways so I have some time to think about it.

That way I can put the silver dollars into the quarantine tank after just to make sure they are good to go.

Sorry to bring this thread back to life but I'm in a bit of a predicament so I've found the jack dempsey is female which is fine she still looks great good to know she will stay at about 6 or u inches. But anyways so this person who's a friend of a friend is a real d bag. They have a 9 inch sailfin pleco they are going to just euthanize because they hate the fish.. So I'm hoping I could add him instead of the silver dollars so far the stock is still the same he's had it for like 6 years and it's only 9 inches I doubt it's going to get over 12 or 14 inches. But what do you all think should I save this fish do I have the room?
