Afternoon all, hope this thread finds you all well.

So, had a visitor to the house this morning, friend of a friend, who turns out to be a very keen aquatic enthusiast. He has kept a range of tropical fish over the years and currently has 6 tanks at home. He took great interest in my 120L tank and was keen to listen as to how i done my fishless cycle, my weekly/monthly tank maintenence and how and what i fed my fish... but one thing he commented on threw me a little... "is that all you have in there? You can get alot more fish in that tank mate"... now, i am very keen NOT to overstock my tank in any way, shape or form... so what do you delightful people think?

As follows;
7 x Cherry Barb.
11 x Cardinal Tetra.
10 x Goldfinch Tetra.
6 x Ember Tetra.
12 x Chilli Rasbora.
1 x Male Dwarf Gourami.
3 x Albino Cory

Just to re-itterate, i am not looking for an excuse to get more fish.. i simply believe this fella was a little 'old school' in his approach to my tank and it's inhabitants.

Kind regards,
Terry.

You could probably afford to up the cory count to 6 as you dont have many bottom feeders, but i dont think i would add any more to that setup mate. Im sure it must look pretty busy as it stands.

Looks to me like you're pretty well stocked up now, and I am also "old school." I agree with Tizer in that your cories would be happier if you added three more.

If you were going to add anything, up the corydoras to 6 as Tizer mentioned. I wouldn't go for more than that though, and this is from a guy with a pretty well stocked tank myself!

What are your nitrate readings regularly before a water change and how often do you change it?

Indeed, just as i thought.

My Cory count really should be 6 and above, as i have learnt, so i shall maybe look into adding to them.

My 'old school' comment referred to the fact that he has never done a fishless cycle in 30 odd years of keeping fish, but then again, with the amount of tanks he has combined with the amount of mature media he must have in his filters, i guess there is no real need for him to ever have done one.

Thank you for your speedy replies,
Terry.

My NitrAte readings are always somewhere in the region of between 40-80ppm... i change 40-50% of my water weekly, without fail. In fact, that is one of my 'jobs to do' this afternooon :good:

Sounds like you have a perfectly stableand well looked after tank, that just needs a few more Corys. I too wouldnt add much to it moving forward, if at all.

Nice work :)

it all sounds good, but adding much more would throw off the equilibrium you've found. (Your numbers are right around mine.) My nitrates are usually about 60ppm or so by the time my weekly water change comes, and it slowly climbs closer to 80ppm. Each month I do a bigger water change to bring the nitrate back to 20-30ppm. My fish seem to like the routine and have been getting increasingly interested in the syphon tube. (This worries me because a few months back I accidentally discharged a glofish into my flower bed, without noticing. Hopefully I won't get distracted in the future, because the glofish and guppies just don't stay away, and on the most recent water change, a rasbora ventured over! The last thing I need is the whole shoal getting in the way!)

Add a few more corys and call it a finished tank. Sit back and enjoy! I really like your choice of fish, it's probably a very nice display!

Thanks for all your replies, i have just been on the phone to my LFS and he is hoping to have more Albino Cory in this time next week, so fingers crossed !

Terry.

Bronze is another option, most if not all Albinos are simply bronze corys and they will school together.
