Ok so ive had pictus on my list for a bit but i keep hearing ther a bad idea as i want an oscar / hopefully a pair of JDs i was going to get 6 pictus and 6 dollars but without dillara and pictus what could i hve

Why are they a bad option mate? If the Oscar grows up with them, then he would probably be fine with them.

2 people have said that its a bad idea but ther a guy on here who has a good stocking with them and oscar will be added at abt 3 inch so would it be ok as they are nice

What is it that you're/them are worried about? The Oscar swallowing them? If they're big enough to start with and the Oscar is small like you say then it should be ok i would have thought. Mattlee kept his Oscar with all sorts and as long as it wasn't another big cichlid he was fine... But then again you never know what kind of temperament they're gonna have. :/

Ye people say the oscar will swallow it and choke on its spikes

personally i cant see an oscar catching a pictus as they are super fast. give them places to escape to and hide and they should be fine.

the concern comes if the oscar does attempt to swallow one as the pictus will spread its fins out which will cause the cat to get stuck in the jaws of the oscar. pictus do have extremely sharp fins as anyone who has caught one in a net will tell you as they almost always get tangled up and are a nightmare to release. often cutting the net is the only way to get them out. the net will fall off eventually but its extra stress load on the fish while caught and while swimming with green extensions on its fins

they are a very active and fast catfish and if the tanks set up right i cant see too many problems tbh. its not just an oscar but anything that can get a pictus in its mouth will be in real trouble if it does and it may cause the death of both fish. plenty of people keep large pictus in with larger cichlids. it is a risk but then everything is when cichlids are involved im affraid.

I have two oscars, two severums, and three synodontis cats in one tank. The oscars dont bother the cats at all.

My Oscars are kittens themselves hahahaha

My severums are half the size of the oscars and the oscars accept them as big boys lol

i've kept an oscar with a group of pictus catfish and i had no issues they totally ignored each other and i think the pictus would be way too fast.
