Hi

I have a 12 inch stand (front to back) and I want a 15 inch deep tank, could I do this without extra supprt? (probably a no)

If no, how would I reinforce it? Just poot some more plywood or something on top that is 15 inches?

thanks

The top needs to be slightly larger that the tank (2 mm is enough).

What timber it is made from (if metal then it should take the weight)?

The sides will have to be strong enought to support the extra wieght & the base may need to be made slightly larger (unless it's on a firm surface) as it could end up 'top heavy' and tip if knocked.

the simple answer is no it would put massive amounts of stress on the glass that is overhanging the stand and once full you could be looking at a disaster!!!

your best be is to look for a stand the right size, ok itll be a bit more in the short term but in the long term you wont have to buy a new tank as yours has shattered!! a much better option in my opionion :)

even if you pick up a second hand one itll b worth it!! ;)

I'm not sure on the timber but upgrading (lol) the base shouldn't be too hard, I'll have to check the side walls though.

Cut a piece of plywood to be slightly larger than the size of the base of the tank and screw this down onto the top of the stand, remember to counter sink the screws so they sit flush in the ply so they cant come into contact with the glass.

lol, its a drill piece which bores a recess for the head of the screw to fit into to so that it sits below the surface of the wood.
