I'm trying to decide whether I want a salt or freshwater 10 gallon tank that has nothing but invertebrates. So I was wondering what I would need to but to get the saltwater one going, and any stocking suggestions you had. Thanks in advance for all the help! :good:

Hi
The only thing different would be a good quality salt. This should be used even if doing brackish tanks.
As a matter of interest what inverts are there that are freshwater, I thought most where brackish or salt anyhow.
You will also need some type of hydrometer to measure s.g. to get the salt mix right. But other than that its pretty much the same, heater light filter etc. but I would recmend using filter media that can be thrown away weekly to stop nitrate built up as inverts and nitrates dont mix. 10 - 20% water changes will remove the need for any type of skimmer and also stop you having to worry about adding back trace elements so much too.

Well I have a brackish tank right now, so I already have all the supplies as far as salt and testing go, I just need to know what else. as for freshwater, theres a lot of shrimp varieties, some crabs (not many), crayfish, and snails. Not a very colorful tank when compared to marine, but its a little bit easier, and crayfish are pretty fun!

Oh yes I forgot about crayfish :) I used to have some jumbo long arm shrimp myself until they got over a foot long and had to rehome them. they gave quite a nasty nip too :(.
If youve done brackish then they only difference is the salt mix. Oh and live rock is good for critters to pick at but not essential as it will get colonised over time anyway with base rock.
