Well, as some of you may know, I was originally planning to do an C. American cichlid tank with my 105 gallon tank, but as this thing sits here empty, waiting to be transferd to our basement, the more and more I think how a massive planted community tank would look.

Here are my tank specs:

105 Gallons: 48"x18"x28" (Its a fairly tall tank, but also deep)
2 Aquaclear 110 Filters
400 watt heater
Currenlty has some driftwood, rocks, and small grained gravel for it.

Now before we get to the fun part (The Stocking :D ), I wana plant it. It will be low tech: I will use root tabs, and weekly Seachem Flourish ferts. Nothing else. I can't afford any fancy co2 and whatnot.

Heres the light I would use: http://www.thatpetplace.com/Products/KW/F3...9/Itemdy00.aspx

Giving me around 1.3wpg, and with a tank of thise size, it should be fine.

Now for the fun part, what fish to put in it... I need some suggestions.

Heres what I was thinking:

-2 or 3 bristnose plecs (they don't eat plants right?)
-10 corys
-10 zebra danios
- a pair of german blue rams
- a pair of german gold rams

After that I don't know what else to put in, there's so many possibilities.. So Suggest away! :fun:

Are you sure you want danios? I think they're great starter fish, but its also my personal oppinion that they're really dull. Why not go for a school of tetras? Or maybe if your up for matenience, Angels and Discus make a truely beautiful and amazing planted tank!

maybe some bolivian rams, parrot cichlids, keyhole cichlid, blue acara, personally I would just have a plec and a oscar in there. that would look amazing and wouldnt take so much effort and cleaning as a discus. angels dont need as much maintince and could go in there with your rams n plecs n such.

Well the danios I would move from my 20, and plus they would be a great fish to start the tank out with.

I'm still torn as to what to do, Pretty bare tank with lots of personality, or lush planted tank full of schools of fish. :fun:

hmmmm.....

10x rummy nose tetra
10x cardinal tetra
10x black neon tetra
10x Glowlight tetra
10x lemon tetra

Heavy plant it. yeah.

And you have room for more

EDIT:

Oh yeah, roselines sharks AKA Red comet barbs would look awesome. add 6x for the centerpiece shaol. but they be expensive :X

Yeah, schools of 10 sound really good. Any more ideas?

or a huge 30 fish shoal of rummy noses? very impressive and just 1 or 2 species of fish makes a planted tank look better (Amano does this).

A hustle and bustle of different tetras should bow down to the gloriousness of 30 of the same species, and I think you will probably still have space :D

I have a really soft spot for serpae tetras - nice colour, always active and if kept in groups larger than 6 or so then I haven't had a problem with any fin nipping - mind you i dont keep them with any slow long finned fish.

rainbow fish.

new guinea reds to be precise.

awesome fish, settled right in when i got them and seem to love bombing round my 80 gallon always together.

they would love the space of a 180 and theres others like bosmani (spelling?) that are a great colour.

Gouramis?

loads of different types and colour morphs so your bound to find some you like.

a shark of some sort, id get an RTBS cos with all that space you wont need to worry about the whole aggresion thing when they get older.

ermmmm

a pair of angels could go with all the above.

oh and finally some clown loaches. atleast 5 IMO.

ooh how exciting, im drooling at the idea of a 105 gallon community lol!

a big shoal of tetra would be outstanding, im personally a fan of neons and cardinals, <3

also danios arnt dull! their stunning :) i have long finned ones theyre so cute when playing hehe!

Would the clowns get too large, as the tank is 4 feet long? Also, could they coexist with a bristnose plec or 2, and a shoal of corries?

Also, I currently have 1 aquaclear 110, and plan to get another. But if I go the community route and don't get messy cichlids, would one aquaclear suffice?

Eventually they'd get to big but that is years away. Large clown loaches are great anyway :)

I'd personally go for 4-6 angels, 4-8 bronze corys, 10 rummy's, 4 clowns

What about a schoal of Praecox rainbowfish? stunning colouration and compatibile with most community fish.
