Hi, Im trying to find an external heater which is 100w suitable for a 15g tank.

I did google but didn't have much luck, looking for one that works with a tetratec ex600 external filter.

Anyone know of a good one?

Thanks.

Dunno if this would work m8, the only 100 watt external but its a us site:(.. not sure if they ship but you could check i guess... i dont think hydor do anythink other than 200 and 300 watt?

linkHERE!! anyways m8 :)

I did look at that, but i was a bit wary as i couldnt find any reviews on it or anything...

I did also look at the rena smart heater... But it kind of defeats the object as it replaces your intake pipe and is quite bulky according to people on PFK forums

I think jebo is quite a good brand m8, and it may be your only option lol :p, im really not to sure but ive only ever come across hydor 200 w and 300 w heaters, i may well be wrong though :p

Im considering getting a 200w hydor, only thing is theres always a chance of it going wrong and boiling my tank... But that could happen anyway...

Why is it so hard to find a 100w external heater?

I honestly can't see why this is of such concern, I mean I'm using the eth300 on a 120l when it's rated for much larger tanks than that, it's absolutely fine. I have no idea why people get so worried about heaters failing these days...

Here here.... scaremongering trumps logic half the time ! Ive ran a 300W in a 4 gal tank for YEARS !!!!

As this seller is from USA... it MAY be the wrong Voltage for use within the UK

Not to mention he wants £25 to post the thing

Didnt think of that actually.

Screw it, i think ill take my chances with the hydor 200w.

I cant imagine a lot going wrong as long as i keep my eye on it...

I got my 300w from warehouse aquatics at a good price if it's any help. Still building the pipe work though so it's not yet connected!

Geoff,

I'm in the same exact boat. I'm using the Hydor 200w on an aquarium too small for it and have just decided to make the assumption that members on here like Rooster and Gav are a good enough counter-argument to the old worry about cooking your fish, hopefully the newer technologies and manufacturing techniques have made it much less common.

In the 60's and 70's when I had lots more tanks it was a bit more common (still -fairly- rare) for the little bi-metalic temp sensor strips to get some corrosion and stick, sometimes in the on position. Thus the advice to not have enough wattage that the heater could cook your stock. At that time I think it was a reasonable concern, but I just don't any feel for the statistics now, since I've returned to the hobby.

The Hydor I have has been an awesome piece of equipment. Tank temp has literally never visibly varied except when I pipe in a ton of cold water and then (of course.. its my overwattage lol) it ramps it up amazingly fast (this was for the benefit of bacteria, not fish, as you can imagine.) The inside tube that heats the water as the filter sends it by is glass, so its important to treat it gently and not drop it, just like a normal testtube heater. The 200w can be obtained in two models to match two different hose sizes.
