I'm gutted!!
Came home from my dog walk to find my 160l tank dripping from the base! I couldn't see any obvious reason as to why it was leaking so I immediately started to break down the tank. Luckly I have set up my 55gal recently and hasn't been fully stocked so I got all of my fish and have put them in the 55. (transfered all of my filters too)

Cleared all of the gravel and found that the glass in the bottom corner seems to have shattered but luckily held so only dripped about a litre!

Guessing that there's nothing I can do to fix it so I might convince my mum to let me get a reptile instead.
Just now i've got one empty useless tank and one massively over stocked tank!

No idea why it has cracked, I got it brand new 10 months ago..and I've misplaced the receipt!

Now what do I do?!!

Receipt or not, speak to the shop where you got it from, it's faulty so they should replace it for you

You can replace that bottom panel of glass yourself.. but I wonder why it cracked. Did you have gravel or sand? Any large rocks? What was the tank placed on? Has it been moved lately? Is the tank completely level?

It had a floating base on the stand that it came on, the level was out by less than a mm. It is a marina 160 tank from seapets so hopefully they will be able to replace it but I'm not sure if I will trust the brand of tank again to be honest. It had Roman gravel with some bogwood and fake plants. I've found a hairline crack on the top corner of the back panel now too.. I just don't get it!!

Floating base.. do you mean like, not supported in the middle? Shouldn't really be an issue.. gravel also should not have been an issue unless it was poured from a height when added.. with the second crack, it sounds almost like it was either a) dropped at some point or b) bumped. very firmly.

I think it is called a floating base..it came with a plastic tray and a thin layer of white plastic type material which it is sat on. It has not been bumped since I had it..unless in transport to me. And I scooped the gravel up with a jug and placed it in right next to the bottom so that isn't the culprit either. I really can't think of anything else but thank you for brainstorming.
I have emailed seapets now asking if they can help.
Looks like im getting a lizard..got 2 other fish tanks.

Trying to look at the bright side here

Go back to the shop you bought it from - did you pay by card if so maybe you can find the purchase on a statement, even without anything I would go back and make a fuss.

I would def look at getting a replacement tank - like Tim_UK said use a bank statement if need be. At the very least you can sell the new tank on or at least house your fish in there to prevent any stocking issues while you rehome them?

I got it online and very good idea about the bank statement!
I have emailed them so I will hopefully get a reply tomorrow, all of my fish seem quite happy for the moment. My dad has a spare 20 gal he could lend me in the mean time. But surprise surprise he's in hospital with a very badly broken foot!
Lots of fun to be had today!
Ill try not to go crazy lol

Hello,

It sounds like the tank has had a "smack", either in manufacturing or in transit. You don't **need** a receipt, just "some" proof of purchase. I'd "kick up a stink".. start "gently" and don't be fobbed off! You may need to get Trading Standards involved (the threat might be enough!).

I've heard of a place that **eventually** replaced a tank with similar damage... and told the owner to dispose of the old one as it was not economic to ship it back. I repaired the tank, which is in use 3 years later.

Good luck!

Oh dear, you're having a time of it aren't you?

As everyone says above, kick up a bit of a fuss about this and see if Seapets will do anything about it.

Hopefully came with a warranty or guarantee?

(I did when I bought my tank from Pets at Home, just had to fill in the registration form and post it, it's a 2 year guarantee) so its possible yours is still under warranty/guarantee if you could find the care guide booklet that came with your tank when you got it delivered, guarantee may be inside that somewhere.

Best of luck

Just got an email back and they cant replace it because it is a small crack that isn't covered by them because it was obviously my fault and not theirs

So looks like ill be getting a reptile if some sort instead because there is no point in selling it for the amount I would get back.

Glad I've got my other 2 tanks to put my fish in tho.

Anyone want any equipment?
