Hello!

I know someone who has a 10 gallon tank with a large (2.5" long including tail) female Betta, and wants to get some Corys to go with the Betta. The problem is the only kinds of Corys around here that are always available are peppered, and albino, and I read they might be too big? I'd like to convince her that maybe she'd like a different kind of fish with her Betta, so any suggestions are welcome! She does have an algae problem right now, so maybe a small Pleco (I have an L444 which I love!), or some other kind of algae eater. The Betta did kill a lone Cory, so I was thinking a school of something might be better than a single fish.

Thanks! :D

The corys are not a good idea IMO, not only are the ones listed to big but if the betta has killed one before I would say its not worth the risk. I do not now much about plecos so I hope someone can confirm, but none that I know of are suitable for a 10 gal due to size and bio-load.

Thanks for the quick reply. I thought that those Corys were too big, but she's not willing to pay for smaller ones, so I figured I'd double check. I have an L444 which only get 4", I read that the smallest tank they can live in is 10 gallons, and it's not even as messy as my Platys! But at the only (good) pet store that sells them they are smaller than the Corys at the same pet store, so I'm a little hesitant about that. I'm not sure if there are any good tank mates for this Betta... Maybe I'll let her get a fish that I want for my 55 Gallon tank so if it doesn't work out I can take it

You can get a dozen of cherry shrimp. Just watch she doesn't peck at them like some bettas do to crayfish.
~However, just don't go with guppies. Guppies+Betta in a small tank = GRRRRRRRRR.

No pet stores around here have shrimp at all, and she doesn't want to order stuff online, otherwise I would've said shrimp. I went by the Betta Fish Compatibility chart by Fishy friend2 here on the forum, and she got 7 Glolight Tetras. After she wanted every different Pleco, and every different kind of Cory that I've never seen before (they had new ones today!) she finally decided to go with the tetras. There were only 7 left, and I wouldn't let her leave just 1. Thanks for your help!
