At this stage, what I would spend the most time considering is: at what time of day would I most often look at my tank? What do I think is the coolest to enjoy looking at?
Most of the fish/aqualife I enjoy looking at is nocternal, in otherwords... after I turn their light off (but leave my light on), is when they become the most active. A lot of people seem to think frogs and shrimp is a boring little combination, but I get sufficient kicks out of them.
Most fish are 'exciting' to own, provided they get the appropriate owner.
