Is there a reason for it?

Thanks, everybody! Is there any reason heaters are setup vertically, or would it be ok to set up horizontally? It seems heat distribution would be better horizontally.

I have two secondhand heaters in a120g tank. Nights are getting cold, and one of the heaters (Eheim, I believe) seems to have given out. What are reputable brand heaters? I'm looking at: Hygger HiTaurig Eheim Open to other recommendations. Thank you!

Thank you all for your thoughts. Though each water change now causes me a lot of anxiety and paranoia, hovering over the tank to search for any signs of distress, the survivors have survived multiple water changes since the great tragedy.

Thanks for the feedback! I ended up buying an FX6. It's too big to fit in the cabinet (too wide for the doors). 😆 Fingers crossed it was the right choice. Does look pretty good so far, though sometimes it makes a crackling/gargling noise, I'm assuming some air trapped inside.
