Thanks for the replies guys, I'm hoping the powerhead I've put in, just breaking up the surface and the powerhead pulling water through the bubble pipe are going to help. Are there any smaller tetra or barbs you could recommend for this tank? Or just any other kind of fish apart from guppies?

Thanks for the replies. Ever the procrastinator, I just added a power head and have done nothing else. It's been a few days and randomly today over the space of a few hours the water has cleared 10 fold, so I am just going to see how it is tomorrow and then go from there. Thanks again

I brought a bucket of salt, used it once, and dropped a rock and smashed my tank, so I have snapped the lid on and its air tight, so hopefully it should be ok.

Will salt go off or spoil after an amount of time open? like 6 months to a year?
