I don't know if I would use intelligent. I would use personality. There are many fish with great personalities. Cichlids usually have great personalities. There are dwarf cichlids that you could look into, if you are looking for a good fish for a small tank. But other than cichlids, I would say that bettas have a great amount of personality also. Not to mention ther are beautiful as can be.

hehe but seriously,fish as a whole are inteligent enough to remember a spot where you feed them and i think can reconise a person to a degree,like my channa and chocolate cichlid will go mental when i walk in the room,where as other people or my wife they do not react at all

I do a lot of carp fishing in the summer (*puts tin hat on*) and i can tell you, they out smart me more often then i out smart them haha
