My friend is looking for a home for her turtle. I am not sure what kind of turtle it is, just one of those ones that they sell at pet stores when they're tiny. Red sliders? or something? I am not sure.

Anyways I have a 120 gallon with a blood parrot and oscar. Both are about 3-4 inches long.

Would I be able to put the turtle in that tank?

I know turtles and oscars are both messy creatures, but I do regular water changes and maintain my tank often.

No. Simply that. Turtles aren't tropical. Turtles can be aggressive and eat your fish. Sorry, I just don't see it happening.

I would be more worried that the turtle would get hurt! :p
I have a 2" turtle that lives with fish, but my fish are guppies and minnows!
I would not put a turtle in with an oscar. I don't know what the water temps
of your tank are either, but turtles need specific temps to survive depending
on the species! And yes, turtles can be messy, mine however is not, yet anyways!

it depends really,

That tank is huge, so size isnt a problem.
But the turtle might hae different temp needs
and the oscar might not like him.
I dont know, just dont get rid of the oscar D:
oscars are amazing, i love mine!

The lfs took my like 10'' tilapia, and put it in a tank with 10'' turtles..

Tilapia had some finnage missing, but no real damage.

I do agree though that it probably shouldn't be done.

I wouldn't do it, from my VERY basic knowledge on turtles, a RES would require a 120 to itself. The turtle will also need a basking area, which would cut down on water for the oscar. I also think that the turtle may try and attack the oscar, so overall I dont think it would be a wise move.

I could see either the turtle clobbering the fish or the Oscar clobbering the turtle. Don't mix them. Red Ear Sliders are aggressive, one could either snack on the fish or be really cool. Problem with keeping them together too, you must provide a basking area where he can get out and dry off under a heat / UVB light.

The 'similar topics' option strikes again! .

This thread is nearly 2 years old :good: .
