I heard somewhere that glofish are made to help the environment..... How is that possible??

The fish we call glofish were first developed so that they could be easily distinguished from others in a test environment. The scientists who wanted to use fish wanted to be able to tell their test population from others. They were first bred using a genetic variation that incorporated jelly fish genetic material into zebra danios. When people saw and liked them, the people holding the patent decided to release the fish for general sale.
