Common name/s: Zebra Puffer, Striped Red Eye Puffer
Scientific name: Carinotetraodon Salivator
Origin: Malaysia,Borneo
Maximum size: 2"-3" Roughly
Care: Needs a tank size of at least 15 Gallons per fish. Requires full Fresh water conditions. Also will benefit from some dense planting for sleeping and resting.
Feeding: Will moslty eat live or frozen foods such as Bloodworm, Tubifex etc. Also crustacians should be included as part of the diet.
Breeding and sexing: The male is substansially larger than the female and their colorations differ dramatically. Males tend to have stripes vertically while the females stripes go from nose to tail. The male also has a ridge or "keel" which will expand in courtship or while threatned.
Comments: Although will tolerate a partner in the same tank, to my knowledge this has never lasted for very long before the male attempted to kill the female. Should then like most Puffers for long term care be kept alone. Not as interactive as Fig8 Puffers but will after a while come to know his/her keeper and interact with them.
