Check the water for ammonia and/or nitrite. If you haven't got any tests, then take a sample to your lfs and ask them to do it.

Ok got a sample to the LFS this morning, ammonia & nitrate fine, but nitrite is high (probably to much water change/gravel vac to early :dunno: ).

1) Any Idea how long this might take to clear? so I can return the fishies to their tank and return my "party tank" to guppy tank.

2) The LFS recommended a solution to stabilise the ammonia/nitrite levels, is this stuff actually reccommended? I thought I'd read somewhere these things are far from ideal.

So far after 16 hours af a party tank only missing 1 guppy, so I guess thats something to smile about :)

PS Just re-read the info on treating new tank syndrome pinned at the top, if nobody suggests otherwise I'll follow its reccommends as soon as the cloudyness clears the rest of the way
