Obviously suffering from a lack of Beta understanding here - as the only advice my LFS gave me when considering Beta's was 1 x male and no more than 3 females in my 70G community tank. Flaring, yes by all 4, the male has his favourite and tolerates her anytime but the others simply puff up at each other for 3 seconds and move slowly on but usually they tolerate each other with no flaring - I have noticed however that the females colours drain rapidly from them and come back again just as quick - why is this???

Rufus only flares at me when he's really hungry. Otherwise, he just wiggles around and seems happy to see me.

My boy goober can see the girl cuz hes in a divided tank so as he flares fairly often at her i dont really bother him..
My new boy Dory isnt old enough to flare yet
:p
