my snail got caught inbetween my above water filter for about three days i didnt think any of it because i figured it just perferred that spot under the "water fall"so my real question is...how do u know if a snail is dead. :/

Hi ghostknifedp :)

If the door in its shell is closed, it's alive. Once it gets to where it stays open and pushing it closed does not help, it's probably dead.

And if the shell starts to disintegrate, then the snail is also dead. I'm not sure if the snail keeps the shell from going to pieces, but I do know that once my snail died its shell broke apart (which sucks because I wanted to use it as a decoration). Someone else said the same thing.

Dead snails pollute the tank, so remove it as soon as you know it's dead.

If you push lightly on the body and bubbles come out or it's firm, it's alive. If you push and all the guts come out, it's dead. And boy do dead snails stink!!

When in doubt, and you really can't tell, pick it up and smell it.

You'll know for sure, the smell with knock your socks off.
