Fertilizer? Some help please.

I am a total newb, when it comes to plants. Could somone give me the basic needs to keeping healthy tropical plants? Also is there such thing as aquarium fertilizers for aquatic plants? will the fertilizer hurt any of my aquarium plants?

The most important thing is light... and the right light at that... i have loads of watts over my planted tank and still things arnt right - the bulbs i have arnt plant friendly.

apparently trichromatic ones are the best for plants (10000 or 6500) so i'll be getting some when i can find some (hopefully tomorrow)

after that, CO2 infusion along with trace elements and nutrients (thats where the fertilizers come in) aquarium plant fertilizers are common enough. and cant see why they would harm your plants???
