Hey all,

There is a brown slimy coating forming on my gravel. :/ It has also begun to climb up the walls of my tank. My tank is a little more than a month old and is 15 gal.

It doesn't seem to be affecting the vitals tho... -_-

Ammonia - 0 :D
Nitrite - 0 :D
pH - 7.2 :p
Nitrate - between 5 and 10 ppm :D

I do water changes every other day....about 20 to 25% water is changed.

There is also hairlike grey stuff clinging to the tank walls. I cleaned it off the first time but it has returned. :dunno:

I'm not too worried about the hairy stuff but this brown coating on the gravel looks real ugly and i dunno what to do about it... :dunno:

I overturned the gravel so that the brown stuff doesn't get lighting anymore but something tells me that that's not gonna solve the problem completely....

I got a Otocinclus today but he doesn't seem to bother eating the stuff...so I figured maybe its not algae.

HELP ME please  ....B4 the situation gets out of my control....

Brown diatoms is normal in new tank just after the cycle finished, but increase the lights and add some fast growing plant and it will soon go away..

but normal CAE and SAE loves these tipe of algae, CAE is easy to find easy to look after, but gets big and doesn't eat most other types of algae, beware..
