Hi all , Iā€™m new today and not familiar Without this site operates I have bought a half crown elephant better fish with a magnificent tail. And have others in different tanks however his beautiful tail is starting to tear should I keep him away from the other tanks or put him in a smaller one it is becoming more damage by the day. Is this because heā€™s moving freely or because he sometimes attacked his reflection or the image of another fish appreciate your input please there is no other fish in the tank

Disease can cause fin shredding. Have you maintained your tank regularly?

Can post some pictures of the tank and fish? What size tank is he in and is it cycled?

Can you also tell us the levels of ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite?

Excessive flaring can cause the fins to split but they should heal up just fine in a healthy tank. Do you have plastic plants? Plastic plants or other such jagged decor can rip the fins, as can a filter that is too strong for the fish.

Can you please answer the following questions.

How big is the tank?
Has it got a heater? What is it set to?
Has it got a filter?
How strong is the current?
Is it cycled?
How often do you change water?
How much water do you change?
Do you vacuum the substrate?
What additives or chemicals do you use? Eg De Chlorinator?
Do you use tap or bottled water? If bottled water please give us the brand.
Do you have a water test kit?
Can you tell us the readings for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate?
When you clean the tank can you tell us exactly what you do.
What do you feed him? how much? how often?
Any tank mates? What sort how many?
How long have you had the Betta?
Has he got a history of illness?
Any plants or decorations? Please give details?
Can you provide a close up photo of the fish?
Can you provide a photo of the tank?
