My community tank has corydora, tetra and dwarf chain loach - all soft water fish. As I am close to London the stuff that comes out of the tap is best described as liquid rock. To provide the right environment I mix 1/3 tap water with 2/3 filtered or RO water. My weekly water change is 100 litres and as others point out I have spare in case I ever need an emergency water change. So at any time I have 200 litres of water prepared in advance.

I certainly recommend keeping fish that suit your water as it is so much easier. I do this for my other tank but as I am not a fan of live bearers finding suitable fish to keep is pretty difficult. You just have so many more options with soft water.
