Hello everyone!

I have a 34 gallon tank, and my three year old angelfish in it has a rather strange problem, she seems to have developed zits albeit she's far past puberty.

She has two pimples more-or-less symmetrically above each eye, and I can't really work out what they are. I doubt it is HITH syndrome, since the spots don't seem to be near the sensory pits.

The fish swims well, eats well, her colors are normal, feces ditto, and it is generally in what can be described as a pretty good shape, if you don't count her little skin problem. She doesn't scratch against decorations, and doesn't seem bothered by it at all, even though I am (which is rather ungrateful if you ask me, but I'm going to let that one slide).

As of now I've put malachite green into the tank after the local pet shop owner half-a**edly told me that it must be some parasitic infection, I'm not entirely sure I should trust that diagnosis as after 3 days the green gunk has yet to improve the condition of my beloved fish.

What can this be, and how to get rid of it?

I have never found the technical/scientific name for these fish zits but it appears to be something that cichlids get from time to time, some more prone to them than others. In my case its some of the rescue fish that had come from poor conditions that seem to get these zits and they start to appear when my filters are due cleaning. They do not seem harmful and usually clear up once the filters have been cleaned and an extra water change.

Thanks for the help, I was starting to get worried. I've had this angelfish for quite a while, but I've never seen these things come up.

Keep an eye on it. These "zits" could be the beginning oh hole in the head, or a similar illness. I have battled it with my black breeder angelfish for the past few years. When I first noticed it, it looked just like your pic, but back behind the eye. I use API General Cure when he starts showing a few "zits".
