Hello all,

The Aquatics Club i buy my fish from have an order coming in and the guy was telling me today that he had 3 Zebra plecs coming in too.. ive heard they are rare? He said that they are very hard to come by.
Why are they so rare? They are on sale for £70 or £50 to members (£10 a year for a membership)
If anyones up near me and wants one you know where to get one now lol

Kev

Apparently they are no longer allowed to be exported from Brazil so they are one of the less available fish.Lovely catfish but I dont think I would pay that much for a fish. They are very expensive fish though so £70 is probably a fair price and £50 a bargain

I'd say that was pretty cheap for a very rare fish... I spoke to my LFS today about them and said if he could get them he would expect to pay £100 each and would resell at £150.
I have also seen a breeding pair on Aquabid going for $1000.00 or £563.83 and that is without shipping I guess.
Tri-mar did have them listed for the bargin price of £17.50 but when I checked a few days later it said unobtainable.

I would really like a zebra but I'm definatly not going to pay £150 for one, i'd be gutted if it died...

This is nothing to do with zebra plecs but can u tell me how to post
lol
Thanks

wow, if i were a bit closer to you i'd buy the whole lot and set up a breeding tank. Wildwoods (LFS) in enfield (voted top shop in PFK so you know where i'm talking about) sell them for between £195/250 their only about 2.5 inches long. if you can get them to breed (easier said than done but not impossible) then your onto a winner.

are they L46's or just "zebra plecs"? there are a lot of similar looking and cheaper plecs that aren't anywhere near as striking. i'd be careful about purchasing any "zebra pleco" at a bargain price unless i had the opportunity to scrutinize the fish in person and knew what i was looking for. heck, i'd be cautious paying full price too!

since the L46 is now endangered and illegal to export frrom Brazil, as many plecos as possible should be integrated into captive breeding programs. hopefully this beautiful fish won't become lost to the world.

Zebras are frigging expensive.Very very pretty but far too much for me! I've seen them be priced from £30 allthe way up to £150 (and that one was only around 2"... I've seen biger ones cheaper) I guess it is a case of looking around if you want a cheap one. I'm not certain as too why they are so expensive so I guess is related to what pica_nuttalli about their wild population and the lack of imports
