I don't think you're allowed to say WT(whatever) any more.

Anyway, the little plec guy sold for £107 - but there is another one listed now, starting at £10, 6 days to go. I put it on watch but I don't want it, I can't afford five or six and I don't think one is fair. I don't have one of anything except dog, and she isn't convinced she's a dog anyway. She sleeps on the bed with us and she and her brother (our son Dylan) go down every morning and open their advent calendars together. We prefer to call her family rather then pet.

Really the only people buying Zebra Plecos are the ones that are going to breed them to try and increase the populations. Obviously only responsible people should be doing something like this, and not some fool who's going to inbreed or breed deformed fish.

more accurately: the only people who are going to be buying these are folks willing to pay $100+ per fish. these will either be enthusiasts (likely to become breeders), current breeders, and people with more money than sense.

as the number of tank-bred zebras increase, the price is going to continue to drop. as mentioned, there are a number of successful breeders now, so we're already starting to see a decrease. (remember when you could only find them for $300-$500?)

once the average price hits about $50-$75, then i don't see any reason that people couldn't own just 2-3. i greatly look forward to the day they hit about $25 a pop!

The problem is that the prices are not dropping that much... breeders are trying to sell them cheaper - but people are cashing in on this and selling them back on for a lot more than they paid...

I for one don't like being taken for a ride so wont be selling cheap to people I don't know.

That wasn't the nicest thing to say. It may just be a fish to you, but for a lot of people these are their only pets and it's their hobby. I would readily pay $200 for a Red Tailed Boa, or $80 for a Ball Python. Five months ago I paid $350 for an Australian Shepherd puppy, and I doubt anybody would bat an eye about that. People each have their own passions, so let them.

that would make them enthusiasts and in my experience, most people really into fishkeeping wind up trying to breed anything known to spawn in a glass box.

the line between enthusiasm and more money than sense is, obviously, very thin and poorly drawn. it's easy to tell when fish are $500 each, because the enthusiast will hound around until they find the perfect breeder and the rich kid won't care.

in my mind, an enthusiast in this case would be someone who wants a zebra because it's a small plec with beautiful markings that is shy and slow-growing. they want a zebra for what zebra is. the last category is for those folks that want a zebra because it's expensive and rare.

i guess this was just another example of people getting into a snit because it was late and they just didn't see the one key word in a sentence.
