Your Perfect Shoal?

Chances are when you do find them they'll be in with Boraras merah, Boraras micros and Boraras urophthalmoides as well, I have a mixture of the 4 species.

30+ Boesmani Rainbow Fish, these things are just beautiful.

Sorry to post twice, but a shoal of 30+ Congo Tetra too <3 beautiful fish too.

I really want cichlids but not sure what types I could do and if dwarf cichlids would work in my 29 (see sig.) without the gouramis. If not I'd get some in a larger tank instead of doing a community.

Most dwarf cichlids should work in there without the Gourami's, Look at Rams or Apisto's. Stay away from Kribs and Convicts.

Could I do rams? A pair of German blues or um whatever the other one is I forgot. My ph is usually 6.8-7.2.

You could do any of the rams, Tank bred GBR will have no problem in a tank of 6.8-7.2, it's only the wild ones you have to be careful with in terms of PH, it's more the hardiness of the water they hate.

Ok thanks. My LFS was gonna order me the gouramis so I'll have them order me some GBR instead. A male and female right?
Ok thanks for the help.

A male and two females preferably, but in a 29 Gallon I doubt it would really matter if you had 2 males etc, just make sure the females out number the males otherwise she'll be baggered constantly.

What substrate do you have? Rams are earth eaters and do best with sand, also I'd go for Bolivian Rams instead, quite a bit hardier, most tank bred stock these days is dross.

if you had a spare tank, what would be your ideal shoal of fish. To hopefully keep things sensible, Assume the tank is 4ft max

Assume that there were no tankmates to worry about, all you have to do is concentrate on tank size.

Let's show some respect for the OP and stay on topic please.

That's why I'm not going to answer standbys question. No offense standby. I'd also love a tank filled with some serpae tetras and tiger barbs.

The tiger barbs I have are wonderful, and I'd love to have an even bigger tank with more of them. They shoal when they're even slightly disturbed, but when they're just lounging about during the day they pick at any bits of food all over the tank. Love these fish!
