I jus bought a new filter today and im wondering should i keep the other one running aswell to get the good bacteria in the new filter or should i take it out? Also if i do leave it in how long should i leave it in for?

Thanx in advance guys! :D

What filters are these? Whenever I add an external filter or another internal to where I already have a filter I leave them both running to aid filtration. If you want to remove one leave the old one running for two weeks to allow bacteria to develop in the new filter. :)

The new one i got is a HOB filter and the old one is a box filter (The ones run by a airstone...) So should leave it for 2 weeks? Thanx ryan!!!

Thanx leslie! The tank is already cycled wouldnt the gravel hold enough bacteria for the filter to cycle too or is it safer to keep the two filters running?

Most of the beneficial bacteria colonize the filter media as opposed to the gravel bed.

No it does not, they colonize in both places!

They dont pick one place over another

Must you argue with me about everything I say? It is true that there is more bacteria in the filter media than the gravel bed, because more water flows through there. Ask anyone.

you did not say that you said, "Most of the beneficial bacteria colonized on the filter media OPPOSED TO THE GRAVEL BED!"
That means one over the other

I argue with things you say, cause sometimes you say crazy things!

I said, and I quote, MOST of the beneficial bacteria clonize the filter media as opposed to the gravel bed. And this is true.

i cycled my tank for 2 days, as i have always done, My fish have never died! no ammonia no nitrite, nitrate. Maybe aussie fish are strong :D

No it is not.

You should have said most beneficial bacteria colonize the filter media. but also in the gravel bed!

Saying as opposed means it goes to filter media INSTEAD of the gravel bed.

Most in the filter, not most in the gravel bed, is what that means. It does not mean that there are none in the gravel.
