 I feel like every other thread in this forum is a "Is my platy pregnant?" thread and this is really no different. My beautiful swordtail girl has gotten quite large over the course of the past week or so and I think she may be preggers but being that I've never had a female livebearer before I dont know if she is. I know with guppies the gravid spot if the dead giveaway but everything I've read and been told says otherwise about most platies and swordtails. I've moved the male to my other tank and it's just her in there for now but I will move him back if she isnt pregnant. It's hard for me to tell since I dont know what's just fat and what's babies so to speak... So here goes my annoying thread, but everyone's allowed one right? :good:

She doesn't look exceptionally large. I wouldn't define it as a definitive yes, but if she's been with a male, the answer is probably a yes. How long has she been with the male?

She was with probably 10 other females as well as 2-3 males in the pet store, I dont know how long they were in the same tank but I had them in the same tank for about a week together.

EDIT: Heres the only picture I have of her when I first got her... Much thinner then

Yes she's pregnant, but I think she's got a nother week to 10 days yet.

Good luck though.

Thank you for your input sir, it means a lot with every post I read it seems you have given good advice to everyone and dont get discouraged or angered by the mass amounts of similar posts. Thanks!

LOL been keeping livebeares for 20 years so it's seconded nature to me.

Thats also a lovely pair of lyertail, some males breeding organ (Gonopodium) are elongated in lyertail which makes it's impossible for them to breed, but u got a good one there.

Thats awesome, being 20 myself I can understand how long that is, LOL!

Thank you for the compliment. I'd never seen a pair of lyretail like that and had to have them. They were $5.50 US a piece but the owner said he would give me $2.00 each if they happen to breed (he doesnt think they can :kana:) so hopefully I'll get a good batch and can raise a few for myself as well.

Yes the breed true.

But males with long anal fins will never be able to breed with a female, so keep the normal anal fin males for breeding.

Will do, it's kind of sad in the people world the "bigger the better" so to speak whereas in the fishy world you cant really get anythign if it's too big... a darn shame!

Its kinda sad for the poor fishies... they have to go through all the courtship or whatever it is they do, Chasing I guess and they cant even see the fruits of their labors... A damn shame I say
