i've had my cycling period, where i was silly to trust a lfs and gave the tank a week to "mature before adding my fish". due to this i lost a corydoras a cardinal tetra, 2 angels and a blue female betta, i had my levels all at zero, then tested a day later and the nitrite was sky high, i did a 50% water change and followed it by 10% changes everyday for a week and still my levels are high, i even added a green x phosphate/nitrite remover filter pad yesterday but the levels are still at 1.6, any ideas anyone?

THis is what we have been through - I followed all the advice on this forum and we are now cycling.

All we did was to do a 25% water change every day (and twice per day if needed) until gradually the nitrite reading was zero. It is a painful process because it will take a few days to work and you may well lose more fish (we did). But it certainly worked for us. :/

Hope it helps

If you can get some Tetra Bactozym gel tabs they will fix the problem in a day! They are tabs that contain all the benificial bacteria you need. Ammonia to nitrite and nitrite to nitrate. If you can not get these then some filter "squeezings" from a mature tank will help.HTH ;)
