Yes its true, petsmart employee's are stupid

Only stupid person was your buddy Matt there. He's worse than a PetSmart employee who knows nothing about fish, he's a person who knows something about them and wields it like a club against anyone "less knowledgable" about fish.

The employee was right, your friend was wrong, and he was even more wrong for not explaining the situation to the employee.

Looking at any similar situation, had the roles been reversed, you'd be crying foul against your buddy for trying to do that and congratulating the employee for doing something right.

Maybe your friend was just having a bad day cause honestly I didn't see anyting wrong with what the employee said and he did sound a bit uptight and rude. Of course he could have asked a few more questions just as the customer could have explained more. I think it was just a misunderstanding. But yeah, that comment your friend saying about "I don't really care" sounds like he's gonna wing it and I wouldn't like to sell anything to anyone who would say that. -_-

I think the petsmart employee did the right thing and your the stupid one in the end.

Bones the employee said "the danios will get stressed out and die" so he was under the impression they might still be around and not eaten, therefore returnable, no matter how right or wrong that though process was, it was what he was thinking.

I still don't understand why feeders don't have feelings, but danios do. Are goldfish unstressable or something? Emotions of steel :flex:

People are so dumb. Thye will sell you a guppy or a goldfish to feed to ur fish but they wont sell you a danio?? do they think guppies are more midless then danios. The only diffrence is danios look nicer..

While I can almost see the difference, I think, from the employees point of view anyhow, that if he thought these fish were being purchased with the intent of being "abused" (and reading the conversation, if it happened that way, it seems that way to me) that feeders would be a "better" choice, though only because their "purpose" is to be food. If the employee thought the fish was going to be abused in whatever tank it went in, I feel he was right to sell nothing, or at least try to sell fish who's "job" it is to die. I admit that all fish have "feelings" and none deserve to die for enjoyment, but feeder fish are called "feeders" for a reason. The way I read things, the employee was right, your friend was being argumentative and could have avoided the entire issue by taking ten seconds to explain what it was he wanted to do with the fish.

i said "maybe, but they cost 69 cents each and i really don't care all that much..."

Says it all really :dunno: He's just told the assistant that he doesn't care because they're cheap therefore making it sound like he was buying them knowing they would be put in a stressful situation but so what.

i suggested that if he's embarrased by people yelling at store clerks, he might want to make himself scarce. he said he was looking forward to this.

If that's not looking for a fight I don't know what is :dunno:
He knows that the assistant doesn't have all the facts and isn't prepared to give him any, rather than that he waits to start an arguement.
I'm sure if he had told tha assistant that the danois were to keep a fry tank cycled and would only be in with fry there would not have been an issue and they would have happily sold them to him.

I personally find that by talking to assistants as equals and giving them all the facts about your level of knowledge and tank(s) you get a much better service (+ discounts & freebies :) )

i think VIP is tottaly right here. that guy was RETARDED at the petstore. and liek he said its a whole 69 cent fish, biug deal if it dies

I admit that all fish have "feelings" and none deserve to die for enjoyment, but feeder fish are called "feeders" for a reason.

Here in England there are no feeder fish (feeding live vertabrate animals to other animals is illegal) so those of us who keep fish that must be fed live fish use fish such as Danio's, fancy guppies, tetras and other small cheap common fish as feeders as they are cheaper than goldfish.

The store clerk was well out of line IMO, many fish keepers use small expendable fish like Danios as target and dither fish and there is a long standing tradition of using them as the first fish in to cycle a tank. Even if the guy had wanted to use them as a clean source of feeders (most feeder guppies and goldfish are disease bombs) then the store guy should have sold him the fish without asking questions, i wonder how often the same store clerk questions people when selling large growing fish like oscars, common plecos and bala sharks?

who the hell cares what people say! It's their own money and their own fish. If their willing to risk little danios to keep a tank cyled then leave it at that! VIP was only stating that the petsmart people didn't do a good job of questioning before acting. Simple as that.

I can see both sides of the argument - the petsmart guy was out of line and your friend did not explain well enough. However, both suggested that some kind of fish (guppies & goldfish or danios) are expendable. The petsmart guy may have said this because of the guarantee on non-feeder fish and your friend may have just been showing off or whatever. No matter the reason, no fish is expendable based on its price or appearance or anything else. I can understand people using them to feed other fish but I don't think they are of any less value if this is their purpose. The same goes for fish that are used to cycle tanks - they don't have to die to be useful. Its like suggesting a labrador is more expendable than a chinese crested just because the labrador is more common and less extravagant.

At petsmart there are rules and regulations that the employees have to follow. If an employee sees that a customer wants to purchase an animal ranging from hampsters, rats, or even fish to feed to another animal they have to refuse the sale. There are only specific feeder goldfish or feeder crickets that they will sell. So next time if you have the intent to feed them to something just dont talk. If I was working I just would of put the no 14 day guarentee on the receipt but every employee is different.

ok imagine this, youre at work and have a short ammount of time before the train comes so you go to the fish shop and ask for some fish that you can adequately house and keep in good condition.
Next a nosy no it all eaves drops and tells you you cant take the fish because you will miss treat them (i'd be angry about now)
You say hey im not mistreating them and anyhow there only 69 cents. Mean while the trains coming and youve been at work all day.
The no it all waddles off to speak to someone who has a reputation of misinformation and you are 90% shore you know more then both the no it all and his boss, theytalk about you for a while before deciding that you are not good enough to have one of these fish but you can have one of these because there cheaper and will probably die anyway.
Stuff that, does anyone not see why this guy is angry?
If you agree with the fish store you obviously enjoy an argument and dont seem to care that the fish were destined for a tank were they could; a> keep the tank healthy for future fry, b>not be in a crowded lfs tank anymore c>in all likely hood survive as danios are awesome as dithers (make that definatlety survive until the fry are bigger)

My rambling will finish

here.
