Hi all,

Yesterday i done a water changes of about 35% and the water that came out was rather yellow, any idea why its yellow? Also today the waters looking a little better but still yellowish and its kinda cloudy, little bits of something floating about as if you had picked the tank up and shook it... it just looks messy really :S the never happens after i do a water change, its normally really nice clear water for at least 5 days then starts going a little yellow then on day 6 or 7 water change then all good again.

Any ideas why and how to stop this? Should i do a 50% change tomorrow or would that add to my problems?

Kev

Edit: I have sand substrate incase that helps

Do you have a large amount of bogwood?? Did you clean the bogwood but soaking/boiling it?? This can create yellow/brown water.

I have some bogwood but it aint tannins... well i wouldnt say it is :(

I Clean the substrate when i do a water change and i also sift through the sand afterwards but this week i suked all the crap off the top and left the sand stire till next time...

Any other thoughts?

How olds the tank??
The murky ness could be a bateria bloom.
I had troublws with this on my first tank as it was underfiltered.

Yellowness Id say bogwood, thats all it can be really, unless you have peat in your filter?

a bacteria bloom would make it look more cloudy than yellow, It is more than likely the tannins from the bogwood. Mine has been in my tank for months and it still leaks slightyly.

Ok guys :) thanks for the help. The tanks been up n runnin s good 3 months i think... Not so much of a cloudyness it was just looking like little bits of dirt floating about... I think i will accespt the the yelloness is the bogwood lol cheers guys
