Since I wanted to breed cherry shrimp, I had a tank I wanted to use for them. Now that I'm also going to breed these yellow pingu guppies, can I put them together in the same tank? Like a shrimp tank with some guppy centerpieces? I was planning to make it heavily planted so the guppies fry would survive if I somehow missed her being preggers. So could they coexist or is it a no-no?

should be fine.....but the guppies will munch baby cherries if they can find them.

If I got like 20 cherries do you think they'd breed faster than the guppies would eat them?

if it's heavily planted as you say, then there should be enough refuge for shrimplets to survive until large enough not to be snacks.

Ok good. Thanks! ;) can't wait to start the project!

What would be some good plants to go under a 14 watt CFL? (about 1.7-1.8 WPG)

Definately want some kind of moss to put on this awesome piece of wood I found! Looks like mopani, but I know it's not. Soaking in boiling water right now.

Also maybe some crypts, vallis, suswassertang. Would these all work?

Also what else would do good under that?

My shrimp love willow moss & java moss, they're always cleaning through it & it does well in a low light situation.
They also like hair grass, but that needs a shallower tank
They do need a cave or hidey hole to hide in when they moult

Yes I'm getting them a bamboo one special for inverts :)

What's better, a dual sponge filter for up to 20 gallon tanks, or a power filter with a sponge over the inlet? I was thinking the dponge filter since this is a breeding tank, but I don't know?

Ok I'll get some java moss for it ;)

Will the others be fine?

If it's just for shrimp then go with the sponge filter, they like to clean those too, & no chance of shrimplets being sucked into the filter

It's for 3 guppies too, but ok. It's only $10 so I'll go buy it now.

The guppies will munch on any shrimplets they find, so plenty of hiding places is in order

It's going to be heavily planted with tons of hiding places ;)

I think the cherries will overpopulate quicker than the guppies can catch them all, and there'll be plenty of hiding places and places only inverts can get.

How money?

I poured boiling water over this piece of wood and it's been soaking for 2 days. The waters cold now, and the wood is still floating. How can I get it to sink? And should I refill it with warm water?
