I had a puffer with my yellow labs. I was told by a pet store that they would be ok. I'm hearing differently now from people saying that they can't be together. So what are some good tank mates for the yellow lab chichlids?

Pretty much any other Mbuna species or Aulonocara species. What size is your tank?

Good examples would be Pseudotropheus Saulosi, Iodotropheus Sperengerae and Pseudotropheus Acei - all of which are less aggressive by Mbuna standards like yellow labs. :good:

I have a 50 gallon. So can you put discus fish with them as mates?...(since they are part of the cichlid fam).

That would be a no as well discus require different water chemistry the complete opposite to the yellow lab cichlid.

Theres are 2 different sorts of cichlid, the african which your labs is one and new world american types.
( i know there many more but for this post it will do )

So the cichlids you should be looking at are the mbuna species from lake malawi in africa.
