Hi,

Just wondering if anybody has ever kept these acara and could give me some info on them, temperament, ok with plants, ok with the rest of my stocking below etc.

I currently have 1 x juvenile festivum (3 1/2 in), 2 x semi juv Keyhole (1 is 3in the other around 2/12in) 1 x cuvicep (2/12in) plus 2 Bristlenose plecs and 7 denisoni barbs.

Tank is 260 litre, temp is 26 C, filtration is 2500 LPH and is very heavily planted with rocks and driftwood.

I know some would say I am overstocked already but I am upgrading to a Juwel 450 vision in a few months and would like to know if these fish would be ok to add to the mix. I know it is a bit of a lottery with SA/CA cichlids with indivdual personalities and all that but would just like some advice from those with experience in the past.

Thanks for your input

Mark

Do you have the scientific name for it? There are a few that are called yellows various sizes and some that are the same size but different species.

Aequidens metae is what they are labelled as in the shop and look like from photos on the net.

Ah right okay, pretty similar to my old A.Diadema if you look at star4s recent threads you should see some pics. Not 100% sure on temperament as they can vary between species of Aequidens, but I should imagine your barbs and festivum will be okay but the curviceps and keyhole might have a hard time, how big are they at the moment?

The yelloe acara are about 2 1/2 in at the moment in the shop. a little bigger than my curviceps and my smallest keyhole but not as big as the largest keyhole. Looking on the net they seem to range from 15 - 20 cm when fully grown so may be too big to house with curviceps. What do you think?

Is that your tank in you signature box Will? Looks awesome mate!

Personally I would say its down to their personality but Im not sure..... I dont think I would do it to be fair.

Think your right pal, will wait until they have more curviceps in I think and stick to that plan for now.

When I upgrade to the 450l tank what do you recommend I could add to the party? Have had severums before and really like the rotkeil variant but not sure about my plants being lunch

would also rehomw the curviceps if that was a limiting factor
