Get my first betta in a few years tommorow
He will be going in a 1 gallon mason jar. All set up. I H had to beg my mom to use all her mananyoise.
I am also getting a female or 2 to go in my 20 long!
hehe im soooooooo ecxited

wow congratzz on soon getting a new betta...can u show me the 1g jar? If you can, upgrade cuz he may find it uncomfortably small. Anyways...update with pics ASAP

A jar isnt the best home. Ideally depending on where you live you at least need a heater. Filtration isnt essential if you keep up water changes but its better. If you have other fish in your bigger tank you need to make sure that they are potentially compatible with bettas. Even females can be aggressive.

I was reading a book and it said jars are fine and other website said so. So, im gonna use a jar

The very min is 1 gallon, but its not really ideal, 2.5 gallons is a realistic min. What about heating?

I have to agree with Zoe on this. A 1G jar is not really suitable for a Betta. By the time you've added a heater, filter(if you decide to use one) and plants there won't be any room left for the fish.
For what they cost you are probably better buying a small tank. :/

i have to agree with the previous posts, a 1 gallon jar isnt ideal for a betta,a 2.5 would be much better. a heater is needed if you dont live in a warm country and in a 1gallon jar, waterchange would have to be done every 2 days, where as in a 2.5 filtered tank, once a week.but its up to you what you do, no one can stop you.

Zafirah, some books and websites will also tell you you can keep goldfish in a bowl or feed bettas on plant roots - does that mean you should?
