(\/)4R'/... betta freak
I finally got my betta spawning tank, it's a 15 gallon container that was only $6
. I'm getting my female when school ends, and then (after conditioning) I'll be ready for my first betta spawn
... so here's what I'll do, just wanted to check my plans are right...
Step 1-Conditioning- I'll feed both my bettas more, and with live or more nutritious food. I'll do this for a week. the female should be plump with eggs and the male should be active and healthy.
Step 2-Setting Up The Tank-While I'm conditioning the pair I'll set up the tank. I'll fill it halfway and add water condtioner. Then, I'll cute the top off a 2L pop bottle. I'll put a couple of plants around the tank, and a styrofoam cup cut in half floating on top. I won't put in a heater because my room is really hot in the summer and the water will probably be hot as well.
Step 3-Introducing the pair-when the tank is ready I'll put both bettas in plastic bags. I'll float the female's bag in the pop bottle, and when I acclimatize her I'll let her go in the pop bottle. I'll do the same for the male (not in the pop bottle though). The female should be showing breeding stripes, swimming with her head down, and maybe even flaring. The male should notice the female and start flaring. He should start building a nest. When the male's nest is done, I'll let the female out of the pop bottle. The male should start chasing her, then all of a sudden the female should start checking out the nest...
Step 4-The Spawning!!- If the female likes the nest, the male will start wrapping. They might get it wrong at first but then they'll get it right. After a wrap, the female will drop her eggs, she'll float to the top, paralized. The male will pick up the eggs with his mouth and spit them on the nest. They will continue wrapping several times. When they are done the male will chase the female out, I'll remove the female to her own tank and put in some Bettafix.
Step 5-The Fry-If the dad doesn't munch on the eggs, they should hatch in one or two days. When they hatch, they will look like hair coming out of the nest. They cannot swim and are eating their yolk sacs. They will fall out and the dad will pick them up and spit them out like he did with the eggs. In about 3 days the fry will be free-swimming, I'll take the dad out and feed him some bloodwroms since he'll be hungry. I'll also add some Bettafix to his tank. I'll feed the fry some microworms, and I'll keep feedng them 3 times a day, until they are old enough to be jarred.
Step 6-Jarring- I'll jar the fry when they'll get agressive towards each other. They will each be in one jar, with water from the tank. I'll sell the babies, I've got some homes lined up for them already...
So does this sound all right?
Anything I missed, anything I did wrong?
Just want to check I'll do everything right and not mess up!!
BTW, the father will be a blue marble Ct, the female will probably be a blue Vt...
