Well ive picked up my new tank 2day- got a Fluval duo extra 1000

not bad for 200 quid

its took me a good couple of hrs to build the stand and set the tank up

got 2 bags of sand from argos but only used one- 2.49 each not bad

the tanks up but a little cloudy off the sand.

Came with heater and a cpl of water treatments etc

yay me

Hi, did you 'wash' the sand before putting it in?

not a bad price at all for one of those new with cabinet :) i would rewash the sand until it runs clear :)

Even after a load of washing it still can leave the tank cloudy for a week or two.

WhenI put sand in my little tank I took out all the media and stuffed it with poly wool. Left it running for a couple of days then changed back when clear.

Doresy is right, giving the sand a good wash will help with the tank becoming cloudy. It should hopefully clear in a day or two so nothing to worry about.
Congratulations on your new tank, we own one exactly the same and found it to be a nice set up. :good:

just need to cycle it, plant it up then decide what fish.

How many fish should i comftably get in there?

the mrs saw chichids today in the lfs and she like them- im not sure which way to go with the stocking

It should work out to about 48 Gallons so as a rough guide that would be about 48" of fish.
Do you know what sort of Cichlids they were? There are so many about and it would make it easier for stocking suggestions. ;)

i have no idea thats the problem- i got platys and gupies,2 loaches in the lil tank at the mo and 5 neons- this is why the new tank as a i am hooked and b its a lil cramped

what have you got in yours stang1?

I've only got 8 Neolamprologus Multifasciatus in mine but that's because I am breeding them. They are a little shell dwelling Cichlid with big character!

We originally started out with Gouramis, Paradise fish, Plecos and catfish in the tank. The Gouramies and Paradise fish went back to the lfs as they were too aggressive and the other fish were moved into a bigger tank.

After that it became a planted tank with Minnows, Harlequins, Tetras etc. which we really enjoyed.

We then decided to try our hand at breeding so it's become a Multi tank!
