Yay for Tropical Fish

Guys, why do we bother with people like this?

An RTBS Is not suitable in any tank under 20 gallons at an absolute minimum.

Your BiOrb should only be home to small characins, dwarf gouramis (sparkling etc) or bettas.

I suggest you take peoples advice quickly.......

Ben

We bother because we can?!? So many fishkeepers have no idea about parameters, stocking levels and other primary factors in fish keeping.
If people can come to this forum (like me) and learn about these neccessities in fishkeeping then that is a good thing.

As frustrating as it maybe, this person clearly does not know whether these fish are suitable for their tank, as if they did they would not have introduced an RTBS to a bi-orb.
Now they do know, thanks to ppls advice, they hopefully will act appropriately.

I think alot of LFS are to blame for this....... it is their job to ensure the fish they sell are going to a suitable home before selling them to customers.
Unfortunately so many are after a quick buck that this blinds them... hence why ppl find themselves in this situation....

Having said that it is ALWAYS neccessary to research the requirements of the fish concerned before purchase and introducing it to your tank. So many impulse buys end in tears :-(

EvilBoris as has been stated, you need to reconsider your fish. Do some research for yourself and take the ones that are not suitable back.
Explain to your LFS you were miss-informed and can you get a refund or store credit.
I agree this would make a suitable home for a nice Betta :)

Good Luck

Well I'm back, all the fish have been doing well, from that original batch I lost 1 gourami and 1 goby after a good 6 months or so, but the others did fine (strangely enough the fish didn't swell up and grow to the maximum recorded size as soon as I plonked them in the tank , who'd of thought :grr: ) I got fed up with the bi orb being to small so I got a nice big tank. A 105l (40 one, and it has been set up about 3 months. All the fish are happy and its close to being fully stocked now. The one surviving honey gourami has gotten huge and became a menace to society, after killing his girlfreind he became aggressive and started attacking my new fish. So he's been sent to the confines of the bi-orb, alone. You big bully that'll teach you

Yup they're all live. I've got eco-complete substrate in there, which they seem to like. Done a bit of pruning since taking the picture, it was getting a bit overgrown.

Well done on getting yourself a larger tank and re-housing your fish, did you keep the RTBS or exchange it with your LFS?

I am pleased you kept with the hobby and were not scared off by all those negative comments at the beginning of this post, the majority were only trying to be helpful but as a relative newbie myself I know also it can be a bit overwhelming when you do make a mistake and everyone jumps in correct you.

BTW that's a nice looking tank you have now.

The RTBS went to my dads tank, to be honest people will say how big a fish will grow, but that will be the maximum size the fish has been recorded (usually in the wild) so unless its said to grow bigger than about 30cm i won't worry (I consider RTBS and clown loach both to be fine. It might take 3 odd years for one to grow too big anyway. From what I have read on this forum I don't particuarly rate it, it seems to be quite heavily populated with playstation playing internet kids who are more interested about telling you things that they have read elsewhere.
