I am keeping mine in a unheated tank in my family room. That means that the tank gets into the mid 60s F in winter and into the mid 70s F in summer. I have left them to flock breed in the tank which is filled with water at about 12 degrees of hardness and a pH of 7.8. Because it is an El Natural planted tank, the water only gets a large change 3 times a year, but that is like doing a 20% weekly water change on a conventional tank. The water is always sparkling clean and has good numbers as far as nitrates because the plants eat the nitrates. With the heavy planting, the fish have lots of places to hide from each other which can be important. The males are reputed to be a bit tough on each other while establishing a pecking order but I have yet to see that. There are some sparkling gouramis in with mine because I was not willing to tear up my nicely planted tank to clean the tank out when these guys came home. So far, they seem to be doing OK together. (about a year now)The tank is a 40 breeder and presently has the last pair of adult resolanae and about 20 fry of various ages. I sold off the rest of the adults as trios and threw in 3 or 4 fry with each sale at the annual ALA convention. They only produce fry at about 8 week intervals and unlike the Poeciliids they do not carry sperm packets from one drop to the next. As HelterSkelter said, they probably have more fry born when the temperatures are higher but I have not noticed that effect much in my tanks. Don't count on more than about 4 fry drops per year because of the long gestation period.
I find the adults are not shy and greet me the same way that guppies do when you approach the tank at feeding time.
