Just a quick question. Am I right in saying that to work out your WPG rating, all you do is divide your total tube wattage by the number if gallons in your tank.

i believe so

but it has to be us gallons

Yes, and as Chr15 has pointed out you use US gallons instead of imperial gallons in your calculations, think of it more of a guideline than anything else, there is a good article on lighting for planted tanks pinned at the top of this section of the forum.
